salt water
How long can you store made up salt water for?
Ended up putting too much salt in when setting my tank up. Was wondering if its worth keeping in a tub for water changes or not?

As salt is expensive, I would say yes, and I should think so long as it's not in sunlight and kept at room temperature you're fine to store it for a considerable time

Yeah thats what i thought too. Too expensive to waste.
Cheers Rick.

What is a safe level for salt reading? Mine was reading 1.023 this morning, now reading 1.025?

Hi John
Safe levels for salt is 1.021 to 1.023 for fish, going up to 1.025 for corals. At the higher end of the range ie 1.025 fish will be OK but their systems have to work that much harder to cope and that is not good for them. Dilute with fresh water preferably stuff that as been through a HMA filter or an R/O unit, if using R/O water check PH and ensure you use a buffer. Storing ready mix salt water is fine but do so at room temperature and with an air stone in it to turn it over.
Regards
Jim
