  1. Transcriptus Pics

2 of the transcriptus were chasing the other 4 out of the rocks, so after a couple of days I caught them (the 4) and transferred them to a 1 metre tank in the garage, there are piles of cobbles at each end and PVC pipes in the middle. It seems fairly amicable in there at the moment - fingers crossed I'll get another pair!!

Out of the 2 in the tanks, 1 is definately more dominant, the other spends a lot of time in the rockwork. Here are a couple of pics of the dominant one...

  2. The Transcriptus are here!!

Picked up the 6 juvenile J. Transcriptus "Kalemie" today. They're in the tank & its certainly a busier place!!

The multis are being very aggressive, I wonder if I made a mistake removing the other julies so early, as the female multi made herself at home in the rocks & obviously resents being kicked out.

A couple of the Trannys are hanging around at the front left bottom of the tank, sometimes they'll get chased away by one of the others ...
  3. Caught 'Em!

    Well,

Took the rocks out very carefully - felt pretty guilty as the Julies stayed in until the last cover was removed. Gently herded them with my 2 big nets & had them both caught in 5 minutes. They're in one of the garage tanks now. Left the rocks out for a bit to give the others the chance to nibble some fry & then put them back in.

Its a pain because I spent ages with the tank empty getting it all right, you don't have that freedom when its ...

  4. Light at the end of the tunnel!

    Well,

Have been speaking to the breeder & will be taking them back to him. He's still got the other 2 in his tank, but they're both Marlieri. I'm a bit worried about introducing a new partner as it is quite likely to end in tears so have asked him if I can have them as credit against some J Transcriptus "Kalemie" that I've ordered from him. Just waiting on the reply.

They're avoiding my pathetic trap like the plaque, so tomorrow I'll remove the rockwork ...

  5. Bad News!

    Well,

Being excited about the fish & ignoring some obvious signs, it is apparent that my Julies are different species! The female is Regani & the male is Marlieri. All the fry are hybrids that shouldn't get out into the hobby.

Bit ticked off to say the least, especially as I can sit & watch the fry in the rocks now.

I've emailed the breeder to see if the other pair he had (and hopefully still has) are the same, if they ...
