Hi all,

Im after setting up two different Biotopes in two different tanks.

One being a Guatemalan one. Were i will have the following :

Cichlidae

- Thorichthys aureus
- exCichlasoma bocourti
- Theraps lentiginosus (Eventually, have to source)
- Tomocichla Sieboldi (Again have too source)

Any other Cichlidae would you have?

Xiphophorus

- Xiphophorus helleri
- Xiphophorus mayae

Secondly i am open to ideas. But i was thinking a mexican one. The fish i have available are

Cichlidae

- Vieja Argentea
- exCichlasoma grammodes
- Herichthys tamasopoensis (Prob going too move on)
- Vieja Regani (Prob going too move on)

Fish i like from mexico and would have to source...

Cichlidae

- Herichthys sp. 'Turq'
- exCichlasoma salvini
- Thorichthys pasionis

Xiphophorus

- Xiphophorus montezumae, cascadas de Tomasopo, Mexico

Any input would be great

Thanks again

Some great choices..................... some could be "switch hitters" for either the Mexican or Guatemalan setups........... being native to both............

I do think Sieboldii is too much fish for your MX mix................ personally! :)

sounds a nice tank but you will have problems with the Xiphophorus cross breeding

No worries although the chances of any fry making it are pretty slim,

Hi Ken,

If i was going to base a biotope around V. argentea then this is the list of fish i would choose, most will be found in the Rio Usumancinta tributaries.

Astaheros nourisatti
C. intermedium
T. helleri/Meeki
Parachromis friedrichsthalii
P. bifasciatus
P.synspilus
Theraps lentiginosus/irregularis (good luck)
V.ufermanni
X. helleri

What size tank are you planning to set up?

Some biotope examples around Vieja argentea ;)

For this combinations you need to have a tank with a minimum size of 200x70x60cm

Rio corzo :
- Vieja argentea 1/1
- Astatheros nourissati 2/2
- Theraps lentiginosus 2/2

Rio corzo
- Vieja argentea 1/1
- Cichlasoma ufermanni 1/1
- Thorichthys sp rio corzo (group)

Rio Tulija
- Vieja argentea 1/1
- Chuco intermedia 2/2
- Astatheros robertsoni group

Rio Tulija
- Vieja argentea 1/1
- Cichlasoma salvini 1/1
- Cichlasoma pearsei 1/1

A other good combination is:
- Vieja argentea 1/1
- Cichlasoma pearsei 1/1
- Petenia splendida 1/1

Kenny, I'm in the process of setting up three similar biotopes:

#1 Broadly Lago Peten Melanurus/Urophthalmus/Pasionis

#2 Broadly Lago Izabal Bocourti/Maculicauda/Robertsoni

#3 Broadly Rio Usumacinta Argentea/Pearsei/Ufermanni

I have managed to collect young examples of all the fish listed except Ufermanni - any ideas?

have you had any luck sourcing the lenti's I'd like to fit those in too!

Let me know what you think, Kelvin

Kelvin, why not substitute uffermani with bifasciatum as there are Rio Usumacintas from my old pair about?????

Good idea Rick, especially since I cant find anyone with Ufermanni, will see if anyone has Bifasciatum, any suggestions would be appreciated!

Ufermanni are not very difficult to get here.. i know some guys who have this fish.. some got them from me.. because i had a lot of fry of them.
Friend of my got 8 of these guys they are now around 18 to 20cm.. ;) F2 Rio corzo.
If you can't find ufermanni why not try Vieja heterospila?? these are also very peacefull and good tankmates for Argentea and pearsei. or a other option Petenia Splendida :)

Hi Michael, I have thought about heterospila but they are also hard to find here, I know Lee has a very nice pair, hopefully he will get them to spawn soon! Kelvin
