View Full Version : 3D background a few question maybe one for Lee to answer

I am about to buy this 3D background to fit my new tank that will be built as soon as i can make my mind up what to do.
I was leaning towards a sump but i would have a weir fitted in one corner so that would mean cutting into the background and then having to hide the weir.
I could go with external filters but not as good filteration wise as a sump but i would not have to cut the background and hide a weir .
The other option is what Lee did and hide loads of sponge behind the background and run a couple of powerheads , but not too sure on what size powerheads to use and how what type of foam ,plus not to sure on how much room i would have at the back they don't look as deep as Lee's back to nature backrounds

If I was thinking about putting in a weir and using a background like that i'd get the weir made by just putting a piece of glass at an acute angle across the back of the tank and then mount the background along this. do you get me???

Couple of externals would be a great deal quieter than a sump if it's going in the house and if you get good ones they will perform well.

Couple of externals would be a great deal quieter than a sump if it's going in the house and if you get good ones they will perform well.

Was told that using a durso fitting would cut a lot of noise out but i'm no expert . The tank will hold almost 210 gallons and a Eheim External Filter 2262 has an outputvof 900 gallons so this would be a good external to have or i could go for 2 externals instead of just one. But i like the flexabiloty a sump can give you will have to give this a lot of thought.
